Board Treasurer (Voluntary Role)
Help strengthen the financial stewardship of a mission-driven organisation at the heart of Australia's civil society.
About the role
Australian Progress is seeking a new Treasurer to join our Board and support our work to build the advocacy capacity of civil society and movements. This is a voluntary, governance-level role suited to someone with a strong background in financial oversight and reporting.
As Treasurer, you will play a key role in ensuring the Board is empowered to govern the financial affairs of the organisation. You’ll work closely with the Chair, CEO, and Finance and Risk Subcommittee to provide strategic advice and support, including reviewing reports, overseeing risk, and helping ensure the integrity of our financial systems and compliance.
Who we’re looking for
We’re seeking someone with:
Demonstrated experience in financial oversight and reporting, ideally in the not-for-profit sector
CPA or CA status (or equivalent level of experience)
Understanding of DGR-specific obligations and relevant tax requirements
Familiarity with funding agreements, acquittals and grants processes.
Experience serving on boards or in governance roles is helpful, but not essential. We welcome expressions of interest from people with lived experience of injustice and from diverse cultural, economic and professional backgrounds.
About Australian Progress
Australian Progress strengthens the capacity of civil society to advocate and win systemic change. We train leaders, foster collaboration, and drive shared action across movements, from climate and racial justice to disability rights and economic fairness.
Time commitment and structure
The Board meets quarterly via video call, with one in-person strategy day per year. The Treasurer also participates in the Finance and Risk Subcommittee and supports budget preparation, audit readiness and compliance review in partnership with the CEO. Australian Progress works with external accountants and auditors for daily operations.
How to express interest
